FAQs
What is ketamine? Is it safe?
Ketamine is an anesthetic medicine with anti-depressant, dissociative, and psychedelic properties. Though it is safe for most people, it is not the right medicine for everyone, which is why all potential treatments start with a full medical-psychiatric consultation.
What is the difference between ketamine and esketamine, or Spravato?
Ketamine is a “racemic” mixture of the two possible orientations of the active molecule, known as the S and R orientations. Most of the research on the safety and benefits of ketamine was done with this racemic mixture. Esketamine has only the S orientation and is FDA-approved for Treatment-Resistant Depression. However, it is very limited in where, how, and why it is used, without evidence of superior clinical effect.
Will you be my new psychiatrist?
Good Medicine is a time-limited augmentation approach to current outpatient psychiatric care. We will collaborate with your psychiatrist and other members of your treatment team to help you, but we are unable to be your primary psychiatric provider in an ongoing way for therapy or medication management.
Do you take insurance?
Unfortunately, insurance companies do not reimburse for this new and specialized form of treatment. Superbills are provided on request for those who wish to seek partial reimbursement from their insurance company.
